Everyone looks forward to summer. It is the one season of the year that you can kick back and be lazy, and it’s also a perfect time to simply enjoy the great outdoors, whether you love the parks and mountains or the beaches. Summer is also the ideal season for having get-togethers with friends and family, and for throwing parties right in your own backyard. Whether you decide a pool party is in order or a simple barbeque with drinks is what you and your loved ones need, there really is no better time to bask in the sun and enjoy fresh, delicious food.

Set a Theme and Set Up a Tent

Setting a theme for your party is not necessary, but it can add a little variety to your parties if you throw them often. Try to have a different theme for every party to keep things interesting and to keep your guests guessing. Whether you go with a typical Hawaiian party theme or you focus your theme on the types of foods you will be serving to your guests, a party theme can go in any direction you choose.

Setting up your space can be simple too. Let everyone know a party is going on by setting up a party tent under which everyone can congregate, get out of the sun for a bit, and kick back.

Play Music for the Atmosphere

Music is a great way to create a fun atmosphere, so choose your tunes wisely. With so many portable music players, there is no excuse to not have music playing for your guests outside. The right songs can set the stage for some dancing, or if you are hoping to create a more relaxed and casual atmosphere, music can do the trick as well. If you want, you can even turn your iPod into a miniature jukebox and allow your guests to choose their own songs for their enjoyment.

Serve Great Food and Drinks

When it comes to summer parties, great food is important, but you don’t really need to overthink it. No one is attending your backyard party expecting fine hors d’oeuvres and world-class cuisine. Grilling up some of your guests favorites, putting out some chips and guacamole, and having plenty of drinks to go around will be the way to get the party started and keep it going for hours. And don’t forget dessert. Ice cream sundaes are yet another fun way to get your guests involved in the party by letting them make their own from a host of ingredients that you can set out for them to mix together.

Consider creating a signature drink for your party that will go along with your choice of food offerings and may even go with the theme of your party. Cocktails are a great way to spice things up without always serving the same boring beer and wine.

Planning a summer party should be fun, not a hassle. Make sure to have a good time with it by letting your imagination run wild when it comes to food choices, drinks, themes and décor, and even music.
